Help to people from Ukraine in Hungary
Below are a number of messages from Carel Oldenboom, spiritual father of the Dominika foundation from the Achterhoek and currently active from Hungary, where he takes care of refugees from Ukraine together with the local population.
As you know, the Dominica foundation has its project in Gönc..this is eastern Hungary and about 100 km from the Ukrainian border. The pastor of Göncruszka has had contacts with poor Ukrainians in the border region for years. He is currently fully engaged in helping and receiving refugees. Since we still had about 70 m3 of relief goods in storage due to corona problems in transport, I asked Ton Eikelenboom (Hoftijzer) if he had options. He will be driving on March 19 and had the condition that the car was full (92m3). Andre from the Shoebox for Children foundation still had a few m3 of duvets. Thus our call for relief supplies to get the wagon full. I am in consultation with the pastor and his team to clarify what is urgently needed. But mattresses, bedding, diapers, sanitary towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc.. are, I think, always welcome.

As agreed last Sunday, I finally had contact today with Levente, the pastor in Göncruszka and coordinator of the aid to the refugees. I understood from him that the stock of food is checked every week. There was enough for this week, but for the coming period all contributions were welcome. Food is also provided to the waiting refugees on the Hungarian side of the border. The trains full of people waiting on the Ukrainian side are fed by the Ukrainian church, because food has already been taken over the border a number of times; seized by the Ukrainian army. Levente and his team personally collect people from the border who they temporarily receive and who are then eventually transported to Budapest if the refugees choose not to stay in Hungary. Money was also needed for these trips. There is also a project underway for refugees who want to stay in Hungary; 2 homes have already been purchased for this purpose and are being "refurbished" and furnished with the help of the refugees. The plan is that several of these homes will become available. Part of the financial support could also be used for this. I myself will help unload the trailer on Monday and I hope to have a personal meeting / consultation about how we can provide further support. My wife Inge and I are going to help sort the goods on Tuesday and Wednesday. Perhaps in the course of the coming weeks we can also make a difference in refurbishing and furnishing the homes. Or maybe something in transport to and from the border. We hope to get clarity about this on Monday and make agreements about it. So far for the update, let me know how we proceed.
